Single Review – Gazelle – Lady Blue Sky

When you name your band after arguably the coolest trainers ever created, you better make sure your music matches up to them and doesn’t end up like Dunlop Greenflash or Hi-Tec (please feel free to add your own worst trainers into this part).

I digress, Gazelle are a 4 piece band from Leicester or is that Lestah?

They’ve been around a few years now and released a number of singles including a favourite of mine, Magic Carpet Ride and are about to release this new track to continue their upwards trajectory.

Describing themselves as makers of 60s influenced psychedelic grooves with bluesy riffs and soaring harmonies, they add Britpop sensibilities into their tunes for an all-round classic sound.

Thus Lady Blue Sky incorporates all of that purple hazy sounds from the late ’60s and the mid ’90s but with a flourish that is often lost with other bands that just don’t quite get it.

It bounces along with a great tempo and a nice groove that reminds me of Kula Shaker at times, or even the mighty Cast, both bands that used that great ’60s sound to brilliant effect.

If you’re a fan of other new bands such as The Mariners, Greencircles or Marseille you’ll really like this too. Plus there are no parkas in sight, I’d encourage you to watch the video to see what I mean.

I’ll give it three stripes….

Let me know what you think but most importantly listen to the tune and let the band know.
