MARCH 2026: THE AUDITOR’S CHOICE

The Top 5: The Rebirth of Cool

While the corporate spreadsheets are busy recycling 2014’s “Safe Indie” for the summer festivals, the real ROI is happening on the fringes. No fleece. No filler. Just the sounds of the resistance.

1. Hannah Robinson – Ruining The Moment

The Vibe: Grunge-rock Natalie Dormer.

The Audit: A visceral, slow-burn detonation from the Newcastle grit. Born from an on-stage panic attack, this is “Dreamgaze” with teeth. It captures the silent chaos behind a composed exterior, trading major-label polish for 90s-inspired distortion. It’s the antithesis of the “Summer of Sameness.”

2. The Mease – When the Illusion Shatters

The Vibe: Oasis meets Richard Ashcroft.

The Audit: A melodic psych-rock masterpiece. It bottles the snarling confidence of Definitely Maybe and pairs it with the cinematic, searching soul of Urban Hymns. It’s the sound of the industry illusion breaking, and the reality sounding much, much better.

3. Yon Mon ft. Bazza Trash – Still Worthy Of Being The Bad Man

The Vibe: Northern Powerhouse defiance.

The Audit: Pure North West grit. Bolton swagger meets buzzsaw guitars in a track that feels like it was dragged through a Manchester back alley. An anthem for the outsiders, proving that staying dangerous is the only way to stay relevant in 2026.

4. The Chantepleurs – The Last of Sheila

The Vibe: West Coast Noir (USA).

The Audit: A masterclass in atmospheric alchemy. Think The Jesus and Mary Chain (JAMC) feedback-drenched “sugar-coated noise” meeting the lyrical voyeurism of Pulp, all driven by the rhythmic precision of New Order. This is salt-sprayed art-pop noir from across the Atlantic.

5. Silent K – Coming Up

The Vibe: Scouse Wobble-Funk.

The Audit: Psychedelic, off-kilter, and impossible to pin down. Conceived in Knowsley and spawned in Liverpool, this is “Sci-Fi Cartoon Pop” with a driving groove. It’s the sound of a Saturday night in the Baltic Triangle that got brilliantly out of hand.

The Verdict: The “Fleece” only works if you keep buying the wool. With Glastonbury taking a fallow year, now is the time to invest in the independent festivals and artists that actually need it. Support the MVT, get your tickets for Front Row’s 10th Anniversary, and follow the bands who threw the keys to the machine away.

Audit over. Weekend starts now. Support the originals.

Keep on Keeping on
